Good Omens - Hard Times / Saturday Morning Funtime TV review

Anathema (Adria Arjona) unknowing befriends the very child she is looking for while also exposing the Antichrist to a boatload of conspiracy theories which have unexpected consequences for reality (as a nuclear reactor loses its reactor, the appearance of aliens, the Kraken, Tibetan spies tunneling under England, and Atlantis all suddenly appear). Towards the end of “Saturday Morning Funtime,” Adam begins to understand his effect on the world and a burning need to enforce his will on Earth (albeit a far goofier will than Hell had originally intended). “Hard Times” takes a look at the relationship of Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and Crowley (David Tennant) and how it has evolved over the millennia from the Garden of Eden until today. Although almost never able to admit their true feelings for each other, we see both make sacrifices to help the other over the centuries as they have each made Earth, rather than Heaven or Hell, their home.

Good Omens - The Book TV review

The second episode of Good Omens introduces a few more characters into the fold as it jauntily strolls towards the end of the world. Adria Arjona (Pacific Rim: Uprising, Emerald City) is introduced as Anathama Device, the last decedent of witch Agnes Nutter (Josie Lawrence) who prophesied all that has happened and all that is yet to come. Despite knowing where to look, Anathama doesn’t recognize the Antichrist when she runs into Adam and his friends (or an angel and demon when she runs into them later that night). The explanation for the trouble in finding the boy comes from Crowley (David Tennant) who offhandedly remarks on the the spawn of Satan’s adaptive camouflage in place to hide his existence until the time is right. We also get a flashback to Agnes as well, and her book of predictions which gives the episode its title and unexpectedly falls into the hands Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) when Crowley runs over Anathama with his car.

Giant Robots vs. Giant Robots vs. Monsters on the Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim: Uprising movie reviewI enjoyed 2013’s Pacific Rim as a throwaway action flick with sci-fi influences featuring robots fighting monsters, but aside from the possibility of having the robots fighting big-name threats like King Kong and Godzilla I wasn’t much interested in a sequel. Without director Guillermo del Toro, who is replaced here by Steven S. DeKnight, and returning stars only in supporting roles, Pacific Rim: Uprising has all the flaws of a bloated, over-complicated sequel trying to out-do the original. It also doesn’t help that the number of robot vs. robot scenes remind the viewer (painfully) of Michael Bay’s Transformers franchise.

Set a decade after the original film, the sequel centers around the never-before-mentioned son of Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) who is forced to re-enlist after trouble with the law. John Boyega works fine as Jake Pentecost, even if the script can never quite decide how disinterested or invested he should be in the Jaeger program. The sequel also plays fast and loose with the core concept of paired drifting being as much art as science by throwing pairs randomly together once the action gets fast and furious. Cailee Spaeny co-stars as a troubled but talented teen who also joins Jake in the program as part of a plea deal.

Emerald City - No Place Like Home television review

Emerald City closes out its First Season with major changes in Oz. Dorothy‘s (Adria Arjona) plan succeeds in momentarily halting the war between the Wizard (Vincent D’Onofrio) and the witches, but also leads to the unexpected release of the long-discussed Beast Forever who will likely be a major player should the show return for a Second Season. Dorothy’s reunion with her birth mother (Gina McKee) is short-lived but it does allow the girl from Kansas to leave Oz and make the trip home… for however long that lasts. Tip (Jordan Loughran), now revealed to be Ozma, reclaims her birthright and takes pleasure in exacting a measure of revenge against the man (Mido Hamada) responsible for her parents’ death. And West (Ana Ularu) and Glinda (Joely Richardson) are apparently on the same side again. Should Dorothy return to Oz she may find it a very different place.

Emerald City - The Villain That's Become TV review

Big changes and revelations are in store in “The Villain That’s Become” setting up next week’s season finale. For Dorothy (Adria Arjona) this means accepting the magic given to her and picking a side – her own. For Lucas (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) this means the end of his days as Dorothy’s traveling companion. For the Wizard (Vincent D’Onofrio) that means turning the tables on Lady Ev (Stefanie Martini). And for Tip (Jordan Loughran) this means giving up the thing she most desires in order to assume her role as Ozma, heir to the throne of Oz, and lead the army of witches assembled by West (Ana Ularu).
