After an exta-long layoff Psych finally returns for Season Six. “Shawn Rescues Darth Vader” wouldn’t have been my choice for the series premiere (it’s a little lacking in the zaniness department at times), but it does provide one great scene between psychic detective Shawn Spencer (James Roday), Head Detective Carlton Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), and a lie detector. Not only must Shawn answer truthfully about his psychic abiities but his consternation at the entire preceding forces him to blurt out the depths of his feelings for Juliet (Maggie Lawson) in front of the entire cast.

The discovery of a severed hand on the beach leads the team to uncover the murder of a deep sea salvage diver, thanks in part to an ingenuous, but rather tasteless, fingerprint recovery method by Max (Masi Oka). The trail leads the to fake treasure, a submerged 1939 army ambulance lost during WWII, the body of a discharged Private, a family tragedy, a stash of missing money, and file classified for more than 70 years.

Justice League International #2

jli-new-52-2-coverThe new Justice League International gets their first big test when a giant robot rises out of the ground in Peru and leaving destruction in its wake. Let’s just say things could have gone better.

The team, ill-equipped for the situation, having no experience together functioning as a team, and with no intel on the threat, quickly gets their butts handed to them. They can’t even agree at making a necessary hasty retreat to regroup. And that’s before they learn the robot has some buddies.

A solid second issue from writer Dan Jurgens. I’d still like it to be a little more fun but we do get a couple of fun moments include Andre Briggs‘ attempt to throw Batman off the team and Booster Gold getting some unexpected support in his early days as leader of the team.

It’s an improvement from the first issue, but the comic is still missing a little of the fun from Justice League: Generation Lost. If Booster is going to be the more serious version we’re seeing here I think the book needs a little more youthful energy which someone like Blue Beetle could provide. Worth a look.

The discovery of the body of a college student shot and left at a construction site becomes much more than a typical homicide when the ballistics comes back identifying Detective Kevin Ryan’s (Seamus Dever) gun as the murder weapon. This is the same weapon that was taken from him last year by the 3XK serial killer (Michael Mosley) before he escaped.

Huntress #1

the-huntress-1-coverAlthough no longer a member of the Birds of Prey, and not part of the initial month of the DC Reboot, the Huntress finally makes an appearance her in the first issue of this six-issue mini-series.

Helena travels to Italy to take down a human smuggling and prostitution ring. Although the issue doesn’t feature a super-villain there are plenty of ass-kicking action panels of the Huntress taking down nameless thugs.

There are two interesting points to note. The first is the Huntress seems more reserved in this new reboot. She’s using far more trick arrows than we’ve seen before and makes concious effort not to draw blood with her crossbow.

The other interesting note is the fact that Helena’s last name is never uttered (other than the cover name she offers for her hotel room). With the recent announcement that Earth-2 will exist in the new DCU that means there’s a chance (although a slight one) that this Huntress is Helena Wayne instead of Helena Bertinelli. How much interesting would the New 52 be with the daughter of Batman and Catwoman running around?
