Titans #22

A new arc begins here beginning with a flashback to Absolute Power and explaining it was Terra who restored and freed Deathstroke during Amanda Waller‘s reign of tyranny. Jumping forward, we don’t get a confrontation between the Titans and their deadliest foe, instead we get the group (with Vanadia) looking over a crime scene where Nightwing reconstructs the events of a prison break (“Boy-Wondering” as Starfire calls it) providing the action of the issue in another series of flashbacks.

The past and present lies of Ingrid (Eve Harlow), including an incredibly coincidental connection to Mary (Rochelle Aytes), are brought out in the open when she’s forced to come clean after the sister (Kiera Allen) she snuck into the medical study starts to have complications. Even after bringing the case to Watson (Morris Chestnut) and the group, Ingrid attempts to initially hide what she’s done although eventually she’ll need to lay all her cards bare. We’re given extended flashbacks with younger actresses playing Ingrid and her sister (Amanda Arcuri and Beatrice Schneider) showcasing dark moments of the young woman’s past that put her onto her current path. Consequences of her current actions may make Moriarty’s (Randall Park) offer all the more appealing (which is really the point of the episode).

Uncanny X-Men #13

A new four-part arc kicks off in Uncanny X-Men involving both the Outliers and flashbacks to a mutant in the pre-Civil Rights era named Henrietta Benjamin who travels from Chicago down south to Louisiana. While both are interesting, and very much separate, it’s a bit unclear how to stories fit together yet. However, they do involve Haven House and the bizarre tomb known as the Artery which Deathdream leads his friends to in the middle of the swamp (where they also encounter another familiar face). Somehow, I’m guessing Henrietta’s fate will play a role in where the Outliers go from here.

Most of the issue involves showcasing the town and Ice struggling with not understanding her new more destructive fire powers. While worrying frantically about everything, including his far more stable wife Rosie (Kristen Stewart) about to give birth to their first child, Glenn (Michael Cera) gets an unexpected visit from his estranged childhood best-friend Rickey (Sky High‘s Michael Angarano who also wrote and directed the film). What follows is a quirky comedy with Rosie more than happy to see Glenn go for a road trip weekend with Rickey ending up in Sacramento, although not for the reasons Rickey initially offers.
