- Title: NCIS: Hawai’i – Season One
- wiki: link
In a show that feels two-parts NCIS and one-part Hawaii Five-0, the latest NCIS spin-off heads to Hawaii to fill the spot created by the end of the Hawaii Five-0‘s ten-year run. The show struggled at times balancing various relationships while offering a strong story of the week and could use a little more of the early zaniness of the Five-0 reboot.
The opening episode introduces us to NCIS Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her team working on the islands. While solving the crime of the week, the show would feature ongoing B-stories involving the personal lives of the team including Tennant’s life with her children, Kai‘s (Alex Tarrant) evolving relationship with his estranged father, and the on-again/off-again romantic relationship between Lucy (Yasmine Al-Bustami) and Whistler (Tori Anderson).
All 22 episodes from the First Season are collected here. Highlights include Lucy undercover, a new case that ties into a murder in Okinawa years earlier, the death of a protestor, and a case that goes back to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Even if it’s not as consistent as even late Hawaii Five-0, there were some enjoyable episodes and there’s plenty of room to see improvement in the show’s upcoming Second Season.
