After learning that three of their four children suffer from a degenerative eye condition which will gradually leave them blind, a family sets off around the world to pack a lifetime of experiences and wonders in a single year. The documentary from Edmund Stenson and Daniel Roher chronicles the French Canadian family’s travels across the world through a variety of locales balancing the emotions of wonder and awe with fear, sadness, and impending loss.

Stenson and Roher cut the year of travel together into an easily-digestible chunk highlighted by both the locations themselves and the various reactions from the family to them without shying away from squabbles among the children who their mother at one time describes as a pack of wild dogs. The emotional impact ever-present in their travels hits home at unexpected moments such as when the youngest finally understands the purpose of the trip and what going blind means or the revelation that the oldest cannot see stars.

Birthed from devastating news, Blink offers a hopeful life-changing experience for the children and their parents who struggle to make the trip a reality but also bask in the wonder they are able to provide to their children.
