A new volume of X-Force begins here with your basic assemble-a-team tale. After boosting his powers a bit in strange and mysterious ways, which I’m sure will have no unintended side-effects, Forge gathers a new team of X-Force together whose members include Sage, Captain Britain, Askani, Surge, and Tank. Along for the first issue, as a guest-star, just in time for his popular movie tie-in, we also get Deadpool.
The first mission of the team involves saving a city from semi-intelligent goop which apparently Deadpool is the key to defeating, but not in a way that will make the Merc with a Mouth happy about this team-up. As a first issue, X-Force #1 is broadly fine with various characters quipping to each other while defeating a not very interesting baddie. Without a core X-Men character, and Deadpool only here for the first issue, the team does feel a bit thin which will force extra pressure on the monthly storytelling and potential guest-stars to keep the title afloat.
