While I’m not overly interested in the Amazon’s Attack! event that this comic is helping to set up, and which the back-up story foreshadows, Wonder Woman #2 is easily one of the best comic books I’ve read this year providing action while at the same time exploring the character of Diana, who she is, why she fights, and why she must take a stand for what’s right.
We’re given two stories here in Wonder Woman standing against the U.S. Army who has orders to take her down and scenes from the pivotal fight of her life in the tournament in which she won the honor to become Wonder Woman. The sequences balance each other perfectly not only to tell two tales that fit well together but in using both stories to get to the heart of who Diana is and why, despite the odds, she will never yield. Our flashback also provides a late reveal pivotal to the current storyline. Terrific storytelling.
