As with the first volume of Ultimate Spider-Man, this new comic offers an alternate history to Peter Parker‘s life in a separate dimension. Here, 20 years ago, a villain known as the Maker prevented heroes from being born. Peter Parker, now a father and husband, has been offered a chance to reclaim a legacy lost by Tony Stark. Choosing to let himself be bitten, and wearing a suit provided by Stark, Peter Parker has become the not-yet-amazing Spider-Man.
After doing the heavy-lifting of setup in the first issue, Ultimate Spider-Man #2 gives us early days Spider-Man which provides pictures Peter can sell to The Daily Planet (which is run by Wilson Fisk who pushed both J. Jonah Jameson and Ben Parker out, although they get their own story here), and have his first run-ins with a new super-villain (neither of which go exactly to plan). Fun stuff, and I’m curious to see where the story goes from here. Oh, there’s also a Green Goblin looming as well.
