Released on or around this date 46 years ago, Throwback Tuesday takes us back to The Brave and the Bold #166 which offered fans a team-up between Batman and Black Canary. When I say team-up, Batman carries the bulk of the issue here headed to Star City after dealing with a prison break in which the Penguin escaped and is out for revenge against those who sent him to prison. And he’s pretty successful as the villain kills several people before he’s apprehended.
Black Canary gets a few panels to shine (with some nice art by Dick Giordano), and offers a notable barb about Ollie, but she’s stuck in the Robin role with Batman really taking the lead in her own city. She even gets captured, stripped, and tied to a chair at one point (exactly the kind of story Gail Simone would work hard to get Dinah out of in her original Birds of Prey run) so the Penguin can send a lookalike after the Dark Knight Detective. Still tied to the chair, however, Dinah does save Batman and contribute to the victory.
