I’m not sure why every version of Supergirl seems to go through a storyline where her powers go on the fritz at some point, but that’s the case in Supergirl #14 where Kara travels to China to seek help from Super-Man and I-Ching.
While several pages are centered around Supergirl centering herself and finding balance, a large chuck of the comic also deals with a pissed-off Rocket Red shot down in China who turns on the locals and the two heroes.
While the encounter with Rocket Red provides the bulk of the comic’s action scenes, Kara’s training with I-Ching centers more on the character’s spiritual growth. It’s an interesting mix that turns out to work well.
There’s also some nice small nuggets here in Kara learning Mandarin before seeking out assistance which helps underline the character as a world-wide hero and not just a local one fighting for truth, justice, and the American way. Worth a look.
