- Title: Spidey Super Stories #39
- Comic Vine: link
- Writers: Jim Salicrup, Michael Siporin, Nick Sullivan
- Artist: Win Mortimer
Flashback Friday takes us back to another issue of Spidey Super Stories. Although Thanos is on the cover, and plays a large role in one of the stories of issue #39, the more common thread is the obvious attempt to include women in the issue. The opening story involves a women’s rights march that is interrupted by Mastermind who uses sleep toxin in soda to put the marchers to sleep. The adventure features Ms. Marvel fighting alongside Spider-Man while Mary Jane works to rouse the crowd.
The Thanos adventure involves Spidey teaming up with the Cat to stop Thanos who, being quite the butterfingers in this comic, loses the Cosmic Cube to a child not once but twice. The Cat fares better than Ms. Marvel in actually helping to thwart the villain. The only story not to feature a female co-star is the shortest of the bunch featuring the return of Mr. Impossible whose interest in baseball causes some momentary trouble for New York. Some of these kids’ comics have aged better than others (sadly, this isn’t one of them).
