Spidey Super Stories #1

Spidey Saturday takes us back to the very first issue of Spidey Super Stories which explored the origins of Spider-Man in the main story, properly introducing him for the new comic with ties to The Electric Company‘s Spider-Man shorts, while also providing some back-up Spidey stories. Skipping over the tragic aspect of Spidey’s origins, the story gives us the spider-bite, nerdy Peter’s lonely existence, the classic scenes of Peter testing out his powers after avoiding a car, and creating the costume and web-shooters to fight crime as Spider-Man. It’s a solid introduction for young readers.

Along with the one-page black-and-white inserts (which later would be used to provide information about the guest heroes and villains), Spidey Super Stories #1 provides a few short stories to fill out the issue including a fever dream from a Spidey fan that he is the new Spider-Man, Spidey helping to fix a power outage, and one hell of a goofy story involving the Spoiler. All-in-all, some fun 70s craziness for kids.
