Throwback Tuesday takes us back to another adventure of the Archaeologists of the Impossible. In Planetary #2, Elijah Snow, Jakita Wagner, and the Drummer head to the far northwestern tip of the Japanese archipelago ruled off limit to all (under the guise of a territorial dispute between Russia and Japan). An unhinged militant radical novelist and his acolytes have set foot on what is known as Island Zero and Planetary is sent to clean up the mess as, you see, Island Zero is home to the remains of kaiju – a fact which has been kept from the rest of the world for decades.
The trouble between the visitors and the troops stationed on the island takes care of itself when they end up killing each other in the detonation of toxic gas. What’s of more interest is the island itself which continues to expand the unusual version of the world in which Planetary operates. And, if that wasn’t enough, we see that the idea all of these monsters died off decades ago isn’t necessarily true. The world really is a wonderous place.
