You have the feeling all through Nights #9 that this is the calm before the storm. However, at least for an issue, our characters are enjoying themselves in this Christmas trip to New York City for Vince’s college admission interview and a chance for couples of Gray and Vince and Ivory and Molly to grow closer and everyone to have a fun relatively monster-free holiday apart from the craziness of their daily lives. Sounds boring, but it isn’t as the title continues to deliver strong stories month after month.
Other than Vince getting a glimpse at the kind of man Ivory is, but is trying not to be any longer, and a scene in a museum where Gray feels a connection to a long dead conquistador, there’s not much conflict here. The issue mainly focuses on both couples spending quality time together, both in and out of the bedroom, and even Matt the ghost getting exactly what he wanted for Christmas. Somehow, though, I don’t expect these good times to last much into the new year.
