The six-issue mini-series comes to a close with a story that spans two planets as Naomi steps foot on the alien world where she was born and comes face-to-face with despot who has slaughtered it (and her parents) for his own amusement. Still not fully in control of the power that is now flowing out of her, the kid manages to hold her own long enough to get home (and prevent the creature from taking even a single step on the adopted world she calls home).
As with many of the previous issues there are some small moments that stand-out as Annabelle sticks up for her friend and Naomi bonds with her mother over one hell of a day.
Naomi is one of the best origin stories I’ve read in recent years. Although there’s still quite a bit to learn about Naomi, the full range of her powers, and finding a new role as a super-hero, the series ends with infinite possibilities. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear we’ll have to wait long as DC is apparently taking the Atomic Robo approach to Naomi and releasing her tales in separate mini-series. Naomi 2 is on the way, and I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for her. Worth a look.
