Following Doom‘s bizarre vision, the former super-villain turned would-be hero is arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D. If that wasn’t enough, a few agents decide it’s better that the tranquilized prisoner never wake up at all.
One of the strengths about the comic so far is the shift in dichotomy of its characters. Marvel’s most-recognized super-villain is a hero and S.H.I.E.L.D. is actively attempting to stop him from doing good (and even attempting to kill him now and again). The arrival of Doom’s mother, whose true intentions are still unclear, certainly complicates matters even further. What is she really after?
The issue’s subplot deals with recent troubling events as Ben Grimm reaches out to Johnny Storm about the odd recent conversation he had with someone acting like Reed Richards. I’m glad to see the Thing and Johnny both immediately understand that someone is playing them. However, I’m still not sure how this (or the odd future vision Doom had with an alternate version of Tony Stark) will eventually play into the main story arc. Worth a look.
