- Title: Holmes & Houdini #3 (of 3)
- Comic Vine: link
- Writer: Honor Vincent
- Artist: Oliver Borges
The three-issue mini-series concludes with Erica Houdini and Spencer Holmes teaming up to stop the dangerous, but completely inept, Nolen who is doing pretty good at ruining his own plans by losing control of the artifact and flooding the world long before the women (dressed in questionable attire) reach him. His attempt to paint the pair as enemies of technology goes absolutely nowhere as the concept is never followed up on and the pair just defeat him in a overly-drawn-out action sequence.
I did enjoy the opening of the issue which gives us Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson which explores the detective’s first encounter with Harry Houdini and the friendship which helped create an Order (finally) to keep dangerous artifacts out of the hands of mad men such as Nolen. The Watson from the flashbacks being identical to that of the present is suggestive, although nothing is confirmed.
On returning to the present, too much of the issue feels like one long uninspired fight sequence (with Nolen having some kind of morphing armor?) ending the comic with a bit of whimper. While I think these two characters can carry a comic together, I think they will need better stories and far more interesting adversaries in order to do so.
