- Title: Holmes & Houdini #2 (of 3)
- Comic Vine: link
- Writer: Honor Vincent
- Artist: Oliver Borges
Running into each other at the end of the last issue, both attempting a little late thievery, the second issue of Holmes & Houdini features a proper introduction of the pair, before each are separately nabbed by Nolan and taken to his secret lab while the evil mastermind takes the weird alien-ish artifact and pairs it with another to become an even greater threat to the world.
The plot gets a bit muddy here. We don’t really need both the artifact and a secret lab of mind-controlling technology all in this same issue as either alone could have worked for the purpose of bringing Erica Houdini and Spencer Holmes together. The plot also jumps hastily ahead, as if the three-issue mini-series was eventually meant to be longer, straight into a rescue hastily explaining some of the missing events through a rushed flashback. That said, when Erica and Spencer are together interacting with each other there’s some fun to be had. When they are not, the comic struggles.
