Captain America #1 is a bit all over the place. I’d call in a day in the life of a super-hero, except the comic covers multiple days decades apart. The current story focuses on Steve Rogers figuring out ways to make a difference when not dressed in a spangly outfit by buying the crumbling building of his youth and doing upgrades to prevent people in the neighborhood from getting evicted. It’s a nice idea, but I’m not sure where the story goes from here.
Interspersed throughout the story are flashbacks to Steve’s rough time living on the streets as a teen, which apparently will play into the main story at some point, and a few random panels of offering a helping hand to any hero that needs one. It’s fine, but there’s nothing here which is a must-read or feels like I need to pick up the next issue to see where this story goes (especially at $6 an issue).
