Bringing back the character of the Broken Man, introduced in the first issue of the current Astro City series, Astro City #37 gives us a peek into the unusual character’s home (known as the Dream House) and offers a new story that teases possible further information about the Broken Man and his war against the Oubor in future issues.
Offering us a history of Astro City, long before the city earned that name, the Broken Man spins a tale of musical figures as Astro City #37 takes us from the Old West to the early 20th Century to the dawn of Jazz.
Through the stories from the Broken Man we learn about the legendary traveling musician Silverstring, the rebellious Mister Cakewalk, and see the birth of Jazzbaby. Presented through the view of omnipresent narrator who is only telling us the parts of the story he wishes us to know, it’s an unusual walk down the streets of Astro City’s dark and troubled past that nevertheless still holds its share of magic and wonderment. Worth a look.
