Chill of the Night

  • Title: Batman: The Brave and the Bold – Chill of the Night

If you’ve read your share of Batman comics you know the name Joe Chill, the man who forever changed the life of young Bruce Wayne one dark night in Crime Alley. With two bullets a simple thug changed the life of one small boy, and created Batman.

For the more lighthearted Batman: The Brave and the Bold the story of Batman confronting Chill might seem and odd pairing, but it works. In “Chill of the Night” the Spectre and the Phantom Stranger place a wager (who knew they both had a gambling problem?) on how the Dark Knight will respond to coming face-to-face with the murderer of his parents. The result gives us a fresh take on the classic “The Origin of Batman” Silver Age tale.

The Power of Shazam!

So you’re telling me not only do I get Batman in this cartoon but Captain Marvel, Black Adam, Dr. Sivana, the underground cavern with the statues of the Seven Deadly Sins, Fawcett City, and the Rock of Eternity, all in one episode? What’s not to love! The only thing missing here are cameos from Mr. Tawky Tawny and the rest of the Marvel Family (especially Hoppy).

I do love my some Chuck, and last night’s episode gave us Morgan discovering his best friend’s secret, evil spies breaking into Castle (led by Batman: The Brave and the Bold‘s very own Dark Knight), and the revolution of the Buy More employees trumpeted by the dulcet tones of Jeffster.

Catman, Calendar Man, and Bat-Mite. Oh, my!

  • Title: Batman: The Brave and the Bold – Legends of the Dark Mite
  • tv.com: link

Catman and Calendar Man, plus Bat-Mite? Oh yeah! Not to mention Mr. Zero, Kite-Man, Gorilla Grodd, Solomon Grundy, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Ace the Bat-Hound, Mr. Polka-Dot, Killer Moth, Tiger Shark, and a Fifth-Dimesion Comic-Con panel. Paul Dini gives us “Legends of the Dark Mite,” the best episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold yet, which even includes a nice nod to the intro for Batman: The Animated Series and the use of one of the ‘buddha offices favorite phrases “Awesomesauce.” In this clip Bat-Mite’s imagination gets the better of him as more and more of Batman’s rogues gallery appears. You can check out the full episode here.
