Chuck Versus the First Fight

This week’s episode of Chuck really does have it all: Sarah Connor, James Bond, explosions, betrayals, more twists than an M. Night Shyamalan flick, and a surprise or two. “Chuck Vs. the First Fight” centers around Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah’s (Yvonne Strahovski) first fight over her turning his mother (Linda Hamilton) over to the CIA. While I’m not sure this actually qualifies as their first fight (didn’t they go a few rounds about Sarah not hanging up her clothes a few episodes back?), this does give plenty of opportunities for Chuck to discuss the situation with everyone from Morgan (Joshua Gomez) to an MI6 operative he just met (Timothy Dalton – great casting!). This episodes also gives quite a few twists (including a couple you should see coming), Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) finally getting to talk with her mother, the appearance of this season’s big bad – Frost’s boss Alexei Volkoff, and an ending that gives us as many questions as answers. This is the strongest episode of Season Four so far.

“Do people usually assume you’re the murderer?”
“Now and then, yes.”

Created by former Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, Sherlock takes the famous detective out of Victorian London and into modern day. The first season is currently playing in America on PBS and is available on blu-ray and DVD.

The three episode first season begins with the meeting of Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. Watson (Martin Freeman) in a loose adaptation of “A Study in Scarlet” titled “A Study in Pink.” Aside from introducing the characters to us, and each other, this first episode begins the Holmes and Watson partnership as the pair hunt down a killer on the streets of London.

This episode reunites Chuck (Zachary Levi) with his long lost mother (Linda Hamilton), who claims to be a deepcover double-agent. Frost proposes to help the CIA recover a terror-inducing nerve toxin to prove her loyalty. The result? Chuck gets shot in the heart (literally). And that’s just the beginning.

Menace of the Madniks!

One of my complaints with Batman: The Brave and the Bold was its choice in the current Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes over the Silver Age version Ted Kord. Most of the show’s choses have gone towards the classic characters rather than the contemporary version. So when this episode delivers not only Kord but his bosom buddy Booster Gold you know that my inner JLI fan giggled with glee.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold – Requiem for a Scarlet Speedster

Growing up Barry Allen was one of my favorite DC characters. The latest episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold finds a way to weave in the character’s death and ghostly appearances (without a Crisis), along with of the Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick and Wally West, and a good villain in the Reverse-Flash. The interplay between the Flashes is what really makes this one work (and the look of all three is perfect!).
