After a brief winter hiatus Chuck returned with our favorite underachieving geek turned spy looking for the perfect scenario to propose to Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski). The mission to recover the microchip gives us several fun moments including a late twist foreshadowed earlier in a conversation between Sarah and Gen. Beckman (Bonita Friedericy), Sarah pretending to be drunk, and Morgan and Chuck’s (Zachary Levi) homage to The Court Jester as Chuck frantically searches for a “peppery pinot with a stable on the label on the cork.”

The Cape

The “Pilot” for The Cape, NBC’s new super-hero drama, is a mess. First, the basic set-up: A cop (David Lyons) is framed by a super-villain entrepreneur (James Frain) losing his job, life, and family (Jennifer Ferrin, Ryan Wynott). Disgraced, and believed dead, our hero takes up with the “Circus of Crime” (led by Keith David) who help him hone his skills to become a super-hero. With their help, and that of the mysterious Oracle Orwell (Summer Glau), he plans to prove that one man can make a difference and save the city.

Castle – Last Call

I do love this show. “Last Call” involves a 135 year-old bottle of scotch, a rustic tavern, and murder. This isn’t the best episode of the show (oh, it is a darn fine one!), but it does have a little of everything that makes Castle work including some great moments for its two stars to shine such as this scene between Beckett (Stana Katic) and Castle (Nathan Fillion) before questioning a murder suspect.

Glee – The Substitute

She had me at “Conjunction Junction.” Last night’s episode of Glee, appropriately entitled “The Substitute” found Sue (Jane Lynch) temporarily in charge of the school and Will (Matthew Morrison) home sick in bed. Meanwhile, the Glee Club found themselves a new friend in free-spirit Holly Holliday (Gwyneth Paltrow) who earns the club’s trust by catering to their choice of music (as well as offering them everything from free tacos to marijuana).
