Throwback Thursday takes us back to a mystery involving the Three Investigators whose mantra of “We Investigate Everything” leads them to not only investigate the missing dog of a longtime friend of Hector Sebastian but also their client’s claim of seeing a coughing dragon on the beach below his home. Jupiter JonesPete Crenshaw, and Bob Andrews go to work investigating the caves in the cliffs along the shore and find a series of clues including tire treads rather than tracks made by any extradentary creature. However, after the see the dragon, the Investigators will be forced to reconsider the facts.

Boston Private Detective Sunny Randall has two cases occupying her attention in Revenge Tour. One involves her landlady, and former client, being blackmailed over the book that made her a star. The other concerns her father being targeted by someone looking to avenge an old grudge. While he only appears in a single chapter, the novel in notable for the first time Sunny Randall crosses paths with Spenser (Robert B. Parker’s original Boston PI whose sucess led to spinoffs for both Jesse Stone and Sunny). Spenser, who is dating Randall’s shrink Susan Silverman, has come up in conversation before, but this marks the first time the two detectives share the printed page.

The Mystery of the Nervous Lion

Throwback Tuesday takes us back to a mystery involving the Three Investigators whose mantra of “We Investigate Everything” leads them to investigate the odd occurrences at the Jungle Land theme park which are making one of the star attractions, a lion named George, nervous. Also tied to the mystery are seemingly unrelated events at the the Jones Salvage Yard, and all over Rock Beach, involving a sudden run on old iron bars.

Before all is said and done, Jupiter JonesPete Crenshaw, and Bob Andrews will have run-ins with the lion, a panther, a gorilla, and smugglers using the cages of animals transported to the United States to smuggle in uncut diamonds. We do see Jupiter making correct deductions, but, not for the first nor last time, laying blame at the wrong party. We also get a couple of red herrings eventually revealed to be government agents also working the case.
