Behind the Scenes

Joshua, the tale of an odd nine-year-old boy and his seriously dysfunctional family, opened last weekend (read the review).  Today we take a look behind the scenes.  First up, an interview with writer/director George Ratcliff and star Sam Rockwell on the films which influenced Joshua.  In the Full Diagnosis you will find a larger version of this interview plus the pair discussing co-stars Vera Farmiga, Jacob Koogan, and filming in New York City.  Enjoy!

Director Adam Shankman (Cheaper by the Dozen 2, The Pacifier, Bringing Down the House) attempts to translate the Broadway musical about racial integration and a Balimore dance show.  The 1988 version starred Deborah Harry, Jerry Stiller, and Ricki Lake.  This new version features Nikki Blonsky, Amanda Bynes, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden, Allison Janney, and John Travolota – in drag.  Check out the official site.  The musical sings itself into theaters everywhere on Friday and we’ll have the review!  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

This Week in Independent Film

Tim (Khan Chittenden) lives with his brother Mark (Richard Wilson) and his overbearing commediane mother (Brenda Blethyn).  When Tim falls in love with Jill (Emma Booth) his mother declares war and fights to keep her family together against this outsider who she sees as attempting to break-up her family.  Rebecca Gibney, Katie Wall, and Susan Kennedy also star.  Check out the official site.  The film, after playing for two weeks in limited release, opens wide on Friday.  Larger trailer available in the Full Diagnosis.

This Week in Documentary Film
