- Title: The Crazy Ones – Danny Chase Hates Brad Paisley
- wiki: link
After Zach (James Wolk) over-promises a regional barbecue sauce maker the perfect campaign to promote their “Satan’s Tongue BBQ Sauce,” both he and Simon (Robin Williams) are forced to work overtime to try and deliver. After finally convincing Danny Chase (Josh Groban) to write the jingle things get no easier when he refuses to work for the client’s choice of performer (Brad Paisley) who Danny believes owes him an apology for a slight the country music singer doesn’t even remember.
The episode’s B-story introduces Tiya Sircar as Sydney‘s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) new perfect assistant Allie. While trying to keep Lauren (Amanda Setton) from hogging all of Allie’s time, and ordering Zach to stay away from her, Sydney is surprised when begins dating her. When Sydney’s advice to dump her backfire bringing Allie to work in tears, Andrew (Hamish Linklater) decides to give the relationship a real shot.
Both stories work well but the episode would have probably been better served to focus on one or the other rather than try to split focus between them in only 22-minutes. Sircar is a nice choice to spice up the office life but it will be interesting to see just how long Allie actually sticks around. The inevitable blow-up at the recording of the jingle forces Zach to think outside of the box and make a legitimate campaign out of only chaos (proving the character may have more than just a pretty face and that Simon’s belief in him may be justified).
