- Title: Once Upon a Time in Wonderland – Home

Heading into it’s winter break, and not scheduled to return again until March, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland offers up it’s mid-season finale which will finally reunite the star-crossed lovers Alice (Sophie Lowe) and Cyrus (Peter Gadiot). But before journeying to the edge of Wonderland for their reunion, Alice drags Knave (Michael Socha) on a side-trip to find the White Rabbit (John Lithgow) and, after learning about the fate of his family, agree to rescue the Rabbit’s wife (Whoopi Goldberg) and children.
The episode includes flashbacks to Alice and Cyrus’ time together and an attack that leaves Alice seriously injured and the genie second-guessing how much danger their relationship puts Alice in every moment the pair remain together. His attempt to keep his love safe leads him to trade his most prized possession to the Caterpillar (Iggy Pop) to create a lovers hideaway where the present-day Alice returns to to reunite with her lost love.
The uneasy alliance between the Red Queen (Emma Rigby) and Jafar (Naveen Andrews) falls apart when Jafar betrays the Queen who gets her hands on both the genie and the lamp. Jafar’s mad quest creates strange bedfellows and new allies, and the sorcerer’s latest attack forces the third, and final, wish to be used which allows the lovers to remain together but has some unintended consequences for the person making the wish.
The final few minutes of “Home” certainly shake-up the status quo of the show going into its extended break. Cyrus and Alice are reunited, but by using Alice’s third wish to end her suffering the Knave finds himself trapped in the bottle taking the former genie’s place. Despite Alice’s inability to trust the Queen, the final moments of the episode link the pair and I would imagine she would remain with Alice and Cyrus in their quest to recover the missing bottle before Jafar gets his hands on the new genie and the power he needs to rewrite the laws of magic.
