- Title: Glee – Tina in the Sky with Diamonds

The Beatles theme from last week’s season premiere continues as McKinley High prepares for prom and Tina‘s (Jenna Ushkowitz) nomination for prom queen quickly goes to her head beginning with dumping Sam (Chord Overstreet) as her prom date and making everyone around her miserable. The equally nominated Kitty (Becca Tobin), who has no interest in winning the crown, finds herself in the middle of a feud between the Glee Club and the Cheerios (who push the cheerleader’s campaign whether she wants to win or not).
The episode continues Tina’s increased role (after being largely forgotten for most of last season in favor of storlines centered around the new cast members). While dreading Principal Sue‘s (Jane Lynch) sudden vaccination frenzy, the needle-fearing Sam does find a silver lining in the college sophomore (Phoebe Strole) working in the nurse’s office who he immediately falls for. Although sweet, the storyline is more than a little clunky (and I could have done with far less of Sam’s impressions).
Although Tina eventually gets her glimmering moment in the spotlight, it’s short-lived thanks to a nasty Cheerio (Erinn Westbrook), a monster-sized slushie, and the betrayal of Tina’s assistant (Pamela Chan) which leaves McKinley’s newest prom queen covered in goop and tears. Thankfully, the New Directions are there to prop up her spirits with a rendition of “Hey Jude” and quick makeover to help Tina reclaim her moment. Sensing an opportunity of her own, Sue promotes the vindictive cheerleader to head Cheerio and sends her after the Glee Club with vindictive and psychotic force which the mad woman believes may somehow help push the club to winning at Nationals.
In New York, Santana (Naya Rivera) landing a local yeast infection commercial leaves Rachel (Lea Michele) in the dumps about still not hearing back about Funny Girl. Kurt (Chris Colfer) steps in to try and lift her spirits with a duet of “Get Back.” Santana also struggles with her feelings for a co-worker Dani (Demi Lovato) who obviously shares her attraction. Before the episode ends Rachel will get some good news of her own as it appears Ms. Berry’s most fervent wish has been granted.
Other musical numbers include Tina getting off a few bars of “Revolution,” Sam sings “Something,” Santana and Dani perform a duet of “Here Comes the Sun,” Ryder (Blake Jenner), Jake (Jacob Artist), Marley (Melissa Benoist), and Unique (Alex Newell) perform “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club,” and the episode ends in an ensemble performance of both New York and Ohio characters performing “Let it Be.” Up next week – the Cory Monteith tribute episode as the New Directions pause to honor the loss of one of their own.
I already love Dantnana!
I enjoyed all the Beatles songs from the past two weeks but next week’s episode is the one that I’m most curious about.
