Despite their recent disagreements Emily (Shay Mitchell), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), and Aria (Lucy Hale) come together to try and help Hanna (Ashley Benson) get through her mother‘s (Laura Leighton) arrest and arraignment for the murder of Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson). The three Liars even go so far as to break into Wilden’s apartment where they find a connection to A. Meanwhile, Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) and Toby (Keegan Allen) put their heads together to try and find Red Coat by attempting to track down the plane that landed in the woods on the night of the fire and the young man (Wyatt Nash) who took money from Cece Drake (Vanessa Ray) to file a fake flight plan.
Aria isn’t the only one who questions Mike‘s (Cody Christian) possible involvement in the destruction of the car belonging to the classmate who spread rumors about Aria as his father (Chad Lowe), Vice Principal Hackett (John O’Brien), and the boy’s parents all look at the troubled young man with a history of violence as the likely culprit. Thankfully for the entire Montgomery family, Ezra (Ian Harding) steps in and makes a compelling argument for Hackett not to bend to the pressure of the boy’s parents and allow Mike to remain in school.
“Crash & Burn, Girl” provides the Liars with Cece, who had motive for wanting Wilden dead and the means and opportunity to also be the dangerous blonde who visited Toby’s mother at Radley, as an alternative to Alison (Sasha Pieterse) as A’s real identity. However, Emily’s risk inadvertently gets her mother suspended when she can’t account for the missing key to Wilden’s apartment and draws the ire of A who puts a car through the Fields’ living room. With the noose closing in around her mother’s neck and the Fields firmly in A’s crosshairs it’s obvious the Liars will have to step up their game to survive. And if they do, what will A’s next increasingly violent reprisal be?
