Space Usagi: White Star Rising #1

Space Usagi: White Star Rising #1

Rabbit Ronin in spaaaaace! Picking up after the events of Space Usagi: Death and Honor, the following 90s three-issue mini-series continues the space adventures of Miyamoto Usagi‘s descendent (also confusingly named Miyamoto Usagi) defending the Shirohoshi clan in the far future against the Kajitori. As with Death and Dishonor (also originally published by Mirage), this is the first time White Star Rising has been released in color.

Space Usagi: White Star Rising #1 kicks off with a multi-page story explaining the existence of Kameyama, the giant space turtles roaming the galaxy which were the impetus for the flying space fortresses of the Shirohoshi clan before jumping around a bit. We get an attack of a Nekko Ninja Cyborg, Usagi’s recruitment of space pirate Rhogen (basically the Space Usagi version of Gen) fighting in the arena, and the tease of a powerful new enemy. The comic is also notable for an 8-page back-up story featuring Akemi.
