- Title: Zatanna: Bring Down the House #5 (of 5)
- Comic Vine: link
- Writer: Mariko Tamaki
- Artist: Javier Rodriguez
The five-issue mini-series concludes with Zatanna confronting her past and her father and reclaiming her magic. With the help of the Stranger, the pair arrive at Zatanna’s childhood home (literally as Zatanna is transformed into a much younger version of herself in the home she grew up in, more or less). The issue also weaves back in the Order of the Rabbits who also come to help out in what the Stranger refers to as a war for the soul of magic.
After four issues of seeing Zatanna struggle aimlessly with her magic constrained, it’s fun to see her let loose. And in doing so, Zatanna unlocks the truth about that night which scarred her as a child and discovers the magic was always hers, never her father’s, and that her father’s theft eventually leading to his own undoing. In reclaiming the magic, Zatanna rediscovers herself and her role in the world leading to a brighter, and more heroic, future. Zatanna: Bring Down the House #5 proves to be a solid finale to a fun series while leaving us wanting more.
