AEW Rampage - 8/23/2024

The final Rampage before All In offered a trios match between the Conglomeration and Brian Cage, Beast Mortos, and Johnny TV, Mina Shirakawa vs. Robyn Renegade, Roderick Strong vs. Fuego Del Sol, and the Outrunners vs. the Von Erichs.

Highlights

  • AEW continues to push tag-team action on Rampage and Collision. In the main event the Outrunners took on Marshall Von Erich and Ross Von Erich with both Dustin Rhodes and Erica Leigh at ringside.
  • Apparently no one was available for either the Iron Savages or the Gates of Agony to job to, so the two tag teams squared off against each other. A solid tag team match with the crowd getting into this match more than I did chanting “Meat!” before the Gates of Agony scored the win.
  • Lexy Nair interviewed a still angered Hikaru Shida about her recent loss to Mercedes Moné promising to show the women’s division why she is the ace of AEW.
  • Mina Shirakawa defeated a game Robyn Renegade with a figure-four leglock. Mina was over with the crowd and commentary talked up Robyn’s “accomplishments” on both AEW and ROH programming perhaps suggesting she may be looking to do more in the future possibly building her up as an AEW original.
  • The opening trios match felt a little sloppy in spots with Kyle O Reilly, Mark Briscoe, and Tomohiro Ishii getting the win over Brian Cage, the Beast Mortos, and Johnny TV but still provided a solid match. Roderick Strong was on commentary for the match with Kyle taking over that spot for Strong’s match with Fuego Del Sol. That, and the fact that both men are involved in the Casino Gauntlet at All In, tied the first half-hour of the show together (although I was more impressed with the other half of the show).

Less Notable

  • We got a segment setting up the match on Collision to to determine the final spot for the trios match.
