The penultimate episode of the season follows up from events from the previous week involving the death of Lenny Broussard (French Stewart) while also paving the way to next week’s finale. Despite being on forced leave pending an investigation, and having reason to try and distance herself from Will (Ramón Rodríguez) who knows she isn’t telling the complete truth about what happened, Angie (Erika Christensen) helps out on the latest case which includes victims from the same group home she and Will stayed in. The case also has a connection to a case from Wagner’s (Sonja Sohn) past which ties into a secret she’s been keeping from Will her entire life.
The nature of the case allows for flashback of a young Wagner (Sydney Park) and Evelyn Mitchell (Imani Hakim) working the case as well as the return of Mark-Paul Gosselaar as another of Will’s old gang who nearly meets his end from the killer who would later abduct Angie. While the dual investigations, with both sides hiding what they’ve learned from the other for personal reasons, is a bit odd, the payoff of Wagner’s admission to Will about his mother (Raiany Silva) works well, throwing him for a loop. However, that turns out not to be the biggest shock as Angie is abducted from his apartment by the same person targeting his childhood associates setting up one hell of a tense finale.
