The February 3rd edition of AEW Rampage gave us the first Trios Championship defense by The Elite, a tag match with Toni Storm and Saraya, Rush, Ricky Starks, and Swerve Strickland took on Brian Pillman, Jr.
Highlights:
- AEW Rampage kicked off with The Elite successfully defending the AEW Trios Championship against The Firm’s “All Ego Ethan Page, Matt Hardy, and Isiah Kassidy.
- In a backstage interview segment Ricky Starks accepted the JAS gauntlet challenge.
- Danhausen provides the best moments of a pre-taped dueling promo segment between Jarrett and Lethal‘s faction and The Best Friends.
- Toni Storm and Saraya, firmly entrenched in their new roles as heels, defeated the Renegade Twins. Post-match angle gave off some nWo vibes with the two spray-painting “L” on both losers.
- Rush largely dominated his match against Christopher Daniels. Nice booking that made Rush look formidable heading into his match against Bryan Danielson next week.
Lows:
- None
Less Notable:
- Spooky pre-taped House of Black promo taking credit to pushing Eddie Kingston to his breaking point but also firmly stating the stable has no interest in Kingston joining them leaving the storyline in limbo.
- Swerve Strickland defeated Brian Pillman, Jr. in a match that started slow but picked up steam with the crowd eventually showing some love to the hometown boy. Ultimately didn’t do much for Pillman or Strickland’s still ill-defined new faction.
