- Title: Covert Affairs – All the Right Friends

When a simple spy exchange goes horribly wrong, Annie (Piper Perabo) finds herself in Argentina handcuffed to a man (Ignacio Serricchio) she’s not sure if she can trust, in a country whose government hasn’t been apprised of the operation, and with an assassin on her trail. Or, as Annie might call it, just another day at the office.
Most of the best moments, both dramatic and humorous, come from the relationship between Annie and her prisoner as she conjoles, threatens, and eventually wins him over. Even given the unaccounted for trouble, she’s still in control of the situation and manages to find her way to complete her mission and find her way home.
Although not as exciting, the episode’s B-story may have far more long-term ramifications for our heroine. Auggie (Christopher Gorham) is offfered a sizable promotion that would increase his role in the CIA and put more money is his bank account. There are, however, a couple of catches. One, it would mean an permanent end to his role as a clandestine operative as he would be publicly out as a agent for the CIA. And two, his new responsibilities would mean far less time with his charming blonde leggy co-worker.
The episode shows off a wide variety of Annie’s skills as well as provide the mix of trademark action and humor we’ve come to expect from the show. Watching Auggie adjust to his new role, and how it effects Annie, should give the show a natural thread to play on over the course of the season as well.
This was my favorite episode of last season. I can’t wait until they put it out on dvd.
