- Title: Legends of Tomorrow – Phone Home

While raising a host of continuity issues the show doesn’t even attempt to deal with, “Phone Home” is another fun episode as the team travels back to 1988 after discovering the timeline has been altered and a young Ray Palmer (Jack Fisher) was murdered. In the own half-assed way, the Legends save young Ray while possibly muddying up the timeline more as Ray not only meets an older version of himself but other super-powered members of the team, too. The twist for the team, that young Ray isn’t killed by the young Dominator he brings home but by shadowy agents studying it, would work better if the truth hadn’t been revealed to the audience in the opening scene.
Strong influenced by E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial, memorable moments from this episode include a bike ride through the sky against the backdrop of the moon by the use of Zari‘s (Tala Ashe) air totem, Nate‘s (Nick Zano) flittering with Ray’s mother (Susie Abromeit), older Ray‘s (Brandon Routh) failed attempts at team-building aboard the Waverider, and the young Dominator’s escape from the lab through the use of Singin’ in the Rain. While it helps explain the rest of the team disappearing with the ship, the B-story of Jackson (Franz Drameh) and Mick (Dominic Purcell) believing Stein (Victor Garber) to be a traitor simply doesn’t work (and not only because at a molecular level Jackson would inherently know it to be impossible).
