Our Throwback Thursday post takes us back to the space station of humans and aliens all alone in the night. “And the Sky Full of Stars” delves a little deeper into the relationship between humans and Minbari while also revealing what really happened to Sinclair (Michael O’Hare) during the war. Kidnapped by xenophobic Earthers, Sinclair is put into some sort of hallucinogenic virtual reality where his captor (Christopher Neame) hopes to discover what happened during the Captain’s missing 24 hours and how it relates to the Minbari choosing to surrender on the eve of victory. Knowing where Sinclair’s journey will eventually lead him, both figuratively and literally, the episode offers a little more for those viewing it for the first time.
There are certainly some weak elements here, such as how easily someone was able to circumvent Babylon 5’s security and how easy it is for the captain of the space station to go missing for hours without being noticed. That said, this episode continues to build on the mystery surrounding the Earth/Minbari connection, and more specifically that of Sinclair and Delenn (Mira Furlan). While it will be some time before events play out to explain the reasoning behind the actions in those flashbacks (man, this show is filled with lots of filler episodes), eventually there will prove to be a pretty good payoff.
