- Title: Agent X – Pilot

If you ever wondered what spies would be like in the National Treasure universe Agent X attempts to answer that question with a goofy premise about a super-secret spy organization written into the Constitution by the founding fathers and controlled by the Vice President of the United States. The “Pilot” begins by introducing the newly-elected Vice President Natalie Maccabee (Sharon Stone) to her unexpected responsibility and Jeff Hephner as Super Agent John Case who the VP can call into action whenever the FBI and CIA can’t get the job done.
Despite the odd set-up (which still is far more plausible than The Player), Agent X does have some charm. Hephner makes a solid spy, and Gerald McRaney is an intriguing choice for the spy’s support and VP’s man servant. I also liked Olga Fonda as an athletic Russian spy who Case helps put behind bars (twice) over the course of the episode. And I’ll admit I enjoy the fact that Lex Luthor has indeed finally become President (John Shea played Luthor in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman). Stone gives the show a bit of star power bump, but the show leaves the stunts to Case and the capable supporting cast. I may stick around a few more episodes and see what new trouble the VP and super-spy can get into over the coming weeks.
