Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. True, she might not grab the starring role, but she finds a way to make an immediate and lasting impression whether in only a single scene we can’t quite forget where she effortlessly steals the spotlight before fading back into anonymity or popping up in movies and television over the years here and there, almost always reminding us that we have seen her before even if we can’t quite remember where. Even if we can’t quite think her name we immediately recognize her face and search furiously through our brains to remember where we have seen “that girl” before.
If you’ve been watching Lucifer you can’t have missed Lesley-Ann Brandt as the devil’s (mostly) faithful servant Mazikeen. Born in South Africa, Brandt relocated to New Zealand with her family in 1999 where modeling jobs eventually led to appearances advertisements and in two music videos before moving on to television and movies.
Roles in New Zealand TV-series and soap operas such as Diplomatic Immunity and Shortland Street would lead to a role in Starz’s Spartacus: War of the Damned. Since then she has been seen in guest-roles on a variety of American series including Chuck, Memphis Beat, CSI: NY, Gotham, and The Librarians as well as roles in lesser-known films such as Painkillers, Duke, and Drift.
