“He’s the only one of us who could pass for someone in need of institutionalization.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”

When Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) solves a case all by himself Shawn (James Roday) grows suspicious, and not only because the detective throws himself a party to celebrate. Lassiter’s party comes to a screetching halt when he learns the murderer has gotten off on a plea of temporary insanity and will be sentenced to a mental health facility instead of prison.

Shawn and Gus (Dulé Hill) agree to go undercover to prove that Bernie (Brad Dourif) isn’t crazy and actually belongs in prison. While Shawn attempts to get to know Bernie better as a fellow patient suffering from Narcissistic personality disorder, Gus strikes up a relationship with a women with multiple personality disorder (Julianna Guill) while undercover as an orderly.

After spending a little time with Bernie, Shawn begins to suspect the billionare businessman Lassiter put behind bars may in fact really be crazy, and, even worse for Lassiter, he may actually be innocent of murdering his assistant.

Aside from Gus’ unhealthy attachment to yet another crazy woman, there are several nice Psych touches here including several pop culture references, Shawn becoming infatuated with the mental institution, much to Juliet’s (Maggie Lawson) displeasure, and Molly Ringwald in a guest-role as one of the mental institution’s nurses.

Before the end of the episode Shawn will find a way to break a convicted felon out of a mental institution, solve two murders, uncover an evil plot to drive the billionaire crazy and frame him for murder, put himself and Gus in mortal danger, and use Kenny G. to save the day. All in a day’s work.
