When the Machine spits out the numbers of the five heads (Tony Darrow, Vincent Curatola, Paul Schulze, Arthur Nascarella) of the New York crime families, Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) believe Elias (Enrico Colantoni) is finally ready to make his move to take over as the city’s sole crime boss. However, Detective Carter’s (Taraji P. Henson) investigation into Elias’ finances and her determinatin to keep the crime bosses alive puts her son (Kwoade Cross) in danger.
As Elias’ men start taking down the Dons one by one, Reese searches for Carter’s son, and Finch gets some help from an unlikely source – a high ranking cop in HR (Robert John Burke) who Finch informs of Elias’ surveillance of HR family members, including his own.
The episode also includes flashbacks of a young Elias (River Alexander) abandoned to Foster Care searching out the identity of his real father (Mark Margolis) and discovering how his mother really died. The segments give a little more perspective into Elias’ current actions as well as his slow-burning hatred towards his father.
Although the episode ends with Carter’s son safely back in his mother’s arms and Elias behind bars, it’s really another loss for Reese and Finch where Elias in concerned. The would be criminal mastermind gets exactly what he was after by eliminating the competition and, even from prison, putting himself in position to take control of the city.
