- Title: Covert Affairs – Space (I Believe In)

Needing to control the FBI’s investigation into the murder of Seth Newman (Tim Griffin), Annie (Piper Perabo) is put on the case to try and hide her involvement in his murder and Joan‘s (Kari Matchett) cover-up of the crime from the distrusting Vincent Rossabi (Noam Jenkins). Annie is also tasked with trying to recover the missing flash drive which could prove Seth was sharing classified documents with Henry Wilcox (Gregory Itzin).
Given the DNA evidence found under Seth’s fingernails, Annie has only 48 hours before she’ is implicated in his murder. When Auggie is unable to alter the records, Henry Wilcox steps in to save the day by blackmailing Vincent and pinning the murder on a patsy found with Seth’s wallet. Despite momentarily stealing Wilcox’s car (in a nice segment), Auggie is unable to tie the former spy with Newman and the decryption of the flash drive will take some time to decrypt leaving the pair unable to tie Henry to the dead spy. Henry’s motives, as deplorable as the are, keep Annie out of jail, but they can’t convince Ms. Walker to go to work for Mr. Wilcox who doesn’t respond well to her spurning his offer.
The show gets further mileage out of Seth’s murder and the rising tension works well as Annie is forced to deal with the guilt of her actions while walking the crime scene with Vincent and later feels (rightly) responsible for Wilcox’s brutal tactics to get the FBI agent to alter evidence and keep Annie out of the investigation. Annie’s refusal to Henry’s offer was expected, as was his retaliatory outburst, but his revelation to end the episode involving Auggie’s former love (Michelle Ryan) could spell big trouble for our couple in the coming weeks.
