- Title: Beauty and the Beast – Cat’s Out of the Bag

The tragedy of Vincent (Jay Ryan) and Catherine‘s (Kristin Kreuk) failed wedding day leaves Catherine with a desire to put the beast-hunting business in the rear-view mirror permanently. This may allow her to smooth things over at the precinct for Tess (Nina Lisandrello), but it also puts her at odds with Vincent who is determined to tack down the unstoppable Liam (Jason “Iron Eagle” Gedrick) whose henchmen are killing and draining the blood of all of Julianna’s (Gloria Votsis) test subjects.
What’s humorous, in a completely unintentionally way, is the fact that every one of Catherine’s choices in the episode is logical while the rest of the characters, and the show’s writers, all attempt to convince her that she’s wrong. There’s an entire subplot devoted to J.T. (Nina Lisandrello) going above and beyond to convince Heather (Nicole Gale Anderson) of her sister’s destiny with a journal and a story about her ancestor also falling in love with a beast (wow, really?) that, despite not making a hell of a lot of since, somehow has the desired effect.
By the end of the episode it’s obvious that J.T. will remain in danger until Liam is found, the official search for Liam is now in the hands of Homeland Security, Vincent is both unable and unwilling to let the situation go, and Catherine is far less sure of her new position than when the episode began. I’m astonished how much faith is put into the bad romance novel of Catherine’s ancestor and how it somehow legitimizes beast-hunting as a natural calling, but, for whatever the reason, it seems Catherine and Vincent are back on the same page where the threat of Liam is concerned.
